 Choosing a Photographer

A photographer needs to know and understand every aspect of a wedding, and particularly your wedding.  A good photographer will ask about times, places and people.  It is important to find the photographer with the experience and style that suits what you want in your photographs. Like as with any art, you would not  buy a Monet if you like Dali.  Photographers are artists, artists with light and composition.  Think about the style you want your photo's to take, traditional* posed shots or reportage* style.  Also ask your photographer about different albums, if they include a disc for you to reprint yourself, if not, it will extend the cost as a photographer will make money on any reprint.  Visit a photographers web site to see their style of work and when a potential photographer visits you, tell them that you want  to see there portfolio of work.  Also ask your photographer if they have photographed any weddings in your chosen location before, if they have, this will increase the chance that the photographer will be able to deliver quality photographs.  Always get quotes from more than one photographer, and don't be scared to barter for the best deal.

* Traditional Photography - This gives you classic styled photo's, posed photo shoot allows you to know what images you will be getting on your wedding day.

* Reportage Style - Reportage photography is candid photography, you will not know when or where each photo will be taken, and as such this can capture raw, true emotion giving a more "Real feel" to each image.

If you like the sound of both style's, ask your photographer if he / she can do both for you.  Some photographers will, but it is much harder work for one photographer, and could reduce quality of your over all wedding album.  Most photographers will offer both reportage and traditional style photography by using two photographers.  This is normally the best option, but will cost more.
